Anyone who visits the island knows how sacred turtles are to the islanders. While you won't find any sunbathing on our rocky beaches, the turtle holds great symbolism. Native legends claims the island was formed on the back of an old, wise turtle named Makinauk. After many unsuccessful attempts to retrieve soil from the bottom of Lake Huron, the smallest of them all, a mink, is the one to retrieve the soil and place it on his back creating Mackinac Island.
This local legend inspires all who hear it, a great reminder of hope and community. This ring holds a chrysoprase stone, the stone represents a sense of security and trust and is useful in healing codependence whilst supporting independence and encouraging commitment. With dual meaning, this ring will inspire all who wear it for years to come.
Handmade by Mackinac Island silversmith and native, Frank Bloswick.
